<p>Fifty years ago &#8220;Don&#8217;t touch that dial!&#8221; sent shivers down the  collective spine of the baby boomer TV generation. Today a tsunami of a  different sort has sent similar shock waves to the Facebook generation.  On February 10th Facebook has made an overhaul to their Facebook Fan  Page. But don&#8217;t rush in to change it before you&#8217;ve done your research,  particularly if you have custom tabs, the change will affect them.</p>
<p>Facebook  is permitting Page owners to preview the new design. Then on March 11,  the change will be compulsory for everyone. Here is a preview of the  changes and what they might mean for you:</p>
<p><strong>Facebook Changes:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Photos at the Top:</strong>The  most recent photos that you post to the Wall of a Page you admin, or  photos you tag your Page in, will appear here. This area will not  include any photos posted by people who like your Page.</li>
<li><strong>Use Facebook as Your Page: </strong>You will be able to  receive notifications for your Page, view a News Feed for your Page, and  like and post on other Pages as your Page.</li>
<li><strong>Wall Filters:</strong>Pages now have two publicly visible  Wall filters-&#8221;Posts by Page&#8221; and &#8220;Everyone.&#8221; Page admins will be able to  view additional filters &#8211; &#8220;Most Recent&#8221; and &#8220;Hidden Posts.&#8221;</li>
<li><strong>Email Notifications:</strong>You can opt to receive notifications when people post or comment on your Page.</li>
<li><strong>Featured Pages and Admins:</strong>You can feature other  Pages your Page likes, or admins of your Page, in the new &#8220;Likes&#8221; and  &#8220;Page Owners&#8221; sections on the left side of your Page.</li>
<li><strong>Mutual Connections:</strong>When people visit your Page,  they will be able to view friends who also like your Page, as well as  other Pages that both they and your Page like.</li>
<li><strong>Navigation:</strong>The content that you formerly accessed  by clicking the tabs at the top of your Page can now be found in the  column underneath your Page profile picture. The text in the box that  used to appear in the box underneath your Page profile picture will now  appear in the Info tab.</li>
<li><strong>Profile picture size:</strong>The profile picture size for Pages has been adjusted from 200&#215;600 to 180&#215;540.</li>

<p><strong>What to Do after You Upgrade Your Page </strong></p>
<p>Better  to be prepared for the changeover. First you should adjust the size of  your Page profile picture by moving the cursor over the current picture  and click the &#8220;change picture&#8221; link. Next the text in the box that was  under your Page profile picture now appears in the Info tab. You can  adjust this info by selecting the &#8220;edit info&#8221; link at the top of the  Info tab. Then make sure your email notifications settings are accurate.  You can view and adjust these settings using the &#8220;edit page&#8221; button.  The images will not appear in any particular order and I recommend you  replace them periodically.</p>

<p><strong>Use the Photo Viewer as a Marketing Page</strong></p>
<p>The  five most recent photos you uploaded will appear at the top of the  Facebook Page. We suggest using them to your marketing advantage by  populating this valuable area with branding, promotions, special tips,  offers, etc. You can create a series of images with special offers and  calls to action on the photos with a click for details link. When your  fans click the image, it pops into a new lightbox where they can read  the description with link to click. The best dimensions for creating the  thumbnail are 970px by 680px.</p>
<p><strong>Say Goodbye to Static FBML </strong></p>
<p>Facebook  has gone against the conventional wisdom of keeping the Static FBML  page due to its widespread popularity. On March 11, 2011 you will not be  able to create new FBML apps and Pages will no longer be able to add  the Static FBML app. Existing ones will continue to work, it is  recommended to transition these apps to iframes sooner rather than  later.</p>
<p><strong>No More Top Tabs</strong></p>
<p>We love our top 6  tabs. However they are being deep-sixed on Fan Pages in favor side bar  navigation. This redesign could reduce the frequency which users visits  tabs other than the default landing tab. However I suspect people will  get use to the new design and after a while will be comfortable view and  using them. I remember when the L.A. Times changed their front page  format and font. Totally confusing until our minds caught up to what the  eye was seeing. Then it became second nature.</p>
<p><strong>The Final Analysis &#8211; In Facebook We Trust</strong></p>

<p>Facebook  is promising: 1) Better Communication by choosing to receive  notification about fan activity and like and comment on other Pages as  your Page; 2) More Opportunities for Expression like putting photos of  your most recent experiences on the top of your Page; 3) Improve  Relevancy by placing an &#8220;Everyone&#8221; filter on the Wall for people to see  the most interesting posts first and an area for people to share common  friends and interests.</p>

Next, click &#8220;edit&#8221; in the &#8220;public profile URL&#8221; section found at the top of your public profile page. This action expands the section that displays your existing URL and from here you can update the link. Enter the URL you would like though all custom URL&#8217;s begin with linkedIn.com/in/. Include your name/brand/tagline after the last trailing slash e.g. linkedIn.com/in/suzannecamille. Finally, click on &#8220;set address&#8221; and that&#8217;s it, you have a customized URL! In case, your preferred URL is already taken, keep trying until you find the URL of your choice. Also, set your profile to &#8220;Full view&#8221; so that your company details can be viewed by the general public without any need for someone to log in. Make sure you have a relevant keyword in your URL if you are a small company whose name is not easily recognizable.</p>
<p><strong>2. Promote Your Profile</strong><br />
Your company details and employee contacts will be visible on your company profile. Therefore, people can find someone they can get in touch with to find out more about your company. Find ways of promoting your URL in marketing communications such as brochures, business cards, email and so on.</p>

Use keywords that identify your specialty in the industry. <p style="text-align: left;">When you post questions for people to answer, you&#8217;re starting the interaction. Post your questions systematically. You can post questions based on your business or you can post questions based on different topics that you&#8217;re interested in. But post your questions systematically. Set up a schedule, when you&#8217;re going to ask them, what you&#8217;re going to ask them, and know what are you leading people towards. I like to ask social media questions because that is my business. However I am also interested in dogs. I have gone to LinkedIn for dog questions and received some great responses there too!</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Brain storm by asking questions on LinkedIn. These don&#8217;t have to be questions to entice people into your market funnel. They can be questions that you need answers to. Maybe you&#8217;re looking for some help. LinkedIn is a great place to get those kinds of questions answered as well.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">You need to be transparent about what it is you&#8217;re doing on LinkedIn. Are you looking for customers and clients. Don&#8217;t try and pull the wool over people&#8217;s eyes. Be transparent. Let them know you have a business, you&#8217;re looking for customers and clients. The beauty of LinkedIn is that is the type of people who are on there. They are business people who are looking for answers to their questions and they are looking for customers and clients for their own business. So please, be sure that you are very clear and transparent about your intentions.</p>

Develop the quality answers, create blog posts. You&#8217;re going to add your own twist on your own website. They can also be used to write your own articles. They can be used as material that is going to draw people towards you.</p>

<p>There is a failure for business owners when  using LinkedIn! About 80% of LinkedIn profiles are filled with resume  information instead of business information.  If you are asking yourself  why this matters, the answer is quite clear to any marketer within a  hundred paces.  You have to present yourself in such a way that it shows  visitors why they would want to meet you and what you have to offer as a  connection.  Be realistic, when you look at your LinkedIn profile, do  you see someone who is credible?  Your LinkedIn profile should be the  online equivalent of your elevator speech because you only get 9 seconds  to impress the person who reads it.   The definition of bad is if the  person comes away from your profile unimpressed.  Worse would be if  someone elects not to read it at all.</p>

<ol>
<li> <strong>Profiling:</strong> Look at your LinkedIn profile in the Big  Picture view.  If it is not complete, then deduct points.  If it does  not use power words that speak specifically of skills, talents, and  experiences, then start over.  Don&#8217;t be afraid to tell people your  specialties in your summary and list keywords that add targeted punch to  your skill set.  For example, I am a marketer, but that says absolutely  nothing.  But, if you read my profile you find that I specialize in  marketing for women and coaches.  You have a deeper understanding of my  abilities, especially if you are women business owner or a coach.  Make  yourself stand out by not being a part of the crowd of general  adjectives and boring copy.</li>
<li> <strong>Sharing:</strong> Start with the knowledge that if you do not  approach others, you will not get asked to dance!  Add connections to  your profile by sending invitations to people in your address book and  adding your LinkedIn profile badge to all of your outgoing information  like your blog, email messages, and your website.  Publicize your  profile everywhere you can and you will be surprised how many people  start linking to you.</li>
<li> <strong>Joining:</strong> This is the fun part!  Now that you have a  great LinkedIn profile, join some groups.  LinkedIn really makes this  easy because you can join groups according to religion, education,  hobbies, sports, job interests, inspiration, and support.  If you can  think of a reason or interest, then it is likely that LinkedIn has a  group started already for you to join.  By joining groups, you will get  to send connection requests to group members and they will get to  contact you for connections.  Many groups supply discussion boards,  messaging space, and connection updates.</li>
<li> <strong>Asking:</strong> This is the one place that so many people  forget to upkeep in their LinkedIn profile.  Perhaps because we are  concerned about asking for testimonials and reviews from past  connections, we shy away from asking for a recommendation or referral.   Don&#8217;t!  If you have had a good relationship with another LinkedIn  member, then ask for a recommendation.  And&#8230;<em>return the favor because their recommendation gives you credentials</em>, but your recommendation gives you <em>exposure</em> in their LinkedIn profile too.  It is the best of both worlds.</li>
<li> <strong>Answering:</strong> One of the vital assets of the LinkedIn  community is often building a network of people who can offer insight  into questions you might have about business.  In order to find those  connections, asking and answering questions is a great way to establish a  first contact.  By asking questions, you are able to be an expert in a  field and offer guidance to someone else.  In return, by asking a  question, you are giving the opportunity for others to show their  expertise.  Everyone has questions&#8230;now you have network to ask.</li>
<li> <strong>Adding:</strong> Use the robust applications of LinkedIn to  share what you are doing with your blog, add polls to your profile, and  share presentations.  Creating a 360 degree link to all of your  activities gives the people in your LinkedIn network the ability to  follow your message without difficulty or direction.  In the end, your  LinkedIn profile should be about &#8220;working smarter, not harder&#8221; to get  connections.</li>
</ol>
<p>LinkedIn might seem like a huge  investment in time, but it is really an investment in networking the  smart way.  Once your LinkedIn profile is set up and you are interacting  with your groups, you will find it a pleasure that you look forward to  every week.  Plus, it is a great reference tool for you to tell  potential clients or business partners: &#8220;check out my LinkedIn  profile.&#8221;  It is your online portfolio for you and your business.</p>

The traffic you&#8217;ll receive from these directories are virtually non-existent (who uses directories to find websites, anyway?)<br />
* <strong>The average cost of directory submission software: $99&#8230; for backlinks on PR N/A, PR 0 and PR 1 pages from privately-owned web directories that get no visibility on any major search engines.</strong> And, you STILL have to submit manually &#8211; the software just makes it marginally easier to do, but is still not fool-proof.<br />
* The average cost of manual directory submission services: $15-20 for 100 backlinks to privately owned, no traffic/no visibility directories (and the fact that the submitter you&#8217;re hiring will be seeing your niche, keywords and content, and may very well compete with you at some point in the future).<br />
* <strong>Google AdWords &#8211; I&#8217;ve been professionally managing Google AdWords in corporate environments for over four years now. </strong>If you&#8217;re a corporation, spending $200/day is not a problem. If you&#8217;re an individual, $200/day is probably twice your pre-tax full time salary! There&#8217;s no doubt that you have to &#8220;spend more to get more&#8221; on AdWords for that Google page 1 position. You can&#8217;t compete with a small business as an individual&#8230;let alone a Fortune 500 company! USFreeAds Premium gives you the opportunity to get this done in natural searches, with unlimited articles, HTML capabilities, PayPal buttons and more!</p>
